Hi there! My name is Abby. Welcome to my online portfolio!

I was one of those gabby kids who liked words. I liked to write and I liked to talk. I still do. Growing up, I made up stories and would talk about movies and books and whatever was on my mind to anyone who would listen. It would seem I was well-suited from a young age to write and engage with people.

Needless to say, I’ve branched out a little in the years since I started scribbling barely readable words on notebook paper. I’ve written news, feature stories, profiles and movie reviews for newspapers, as well as written, recorded and edited stories, interviews and reviews for radio, in addition to my experience producing an award-winning college radio news program.

In the year since my graduation from the University of Kansas, I’ve been learning more about the other side of journalism–the public relations, planning and administration elements that businesses and organizations use to promote their message. I’ve interned with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, where I got a bird’s-eye view of public media, and how different local stations engage with their audiences. I am currently an intern for a campus ministry at KU through the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas. It’s a great job that allows me to use all the skills I’ve picked up, and put them to use in ministry. I still find time to write, too! I maintain a film blog, No More Popcorn, and contribute to the Web site Scene Stealers, as well as occasional pieces for Kansas Public Radio.

Collected on this site are my resume and highlights of my writing, editing, online and radio work. I feel it’s a good cross-section of the experience I’ve gained so far, as well as an expression of the way I think and work. Thanks for joining me here!
